The Kenilworth Twinning Association
(originally known as the Kenilworth Friendship Society) was formed in 1979 to investigate possible twinning links. In 1982 Kenilworth twinned with Bourg-la-Reine in France, in 1994 with Eppstein in Germany, and in 2009 a Friendship Agreement was signed with Roccalumera in Sicily. Relationships are maintained mainly by regular exchange visits between the towns, usually lasting about four or five days. Members of the visiting groups stay with families in the town, and a number of lasting friendships have been made that way. Some communal excursions, meals and cultural activities are laid on to add to the enjoyment of the visit.
Visits to and from our twin towns are made on a regular basis at least every one or two years alternating between incoming and outgoing trips. These visits are totally self-financed by the Twinning Association but as accommodation is always provided with host families the cost is limited to transport plus a small contribution to excursions and entertainment. Knowledge of French, German and Italian is certainly not necessary, but it is appreciated when we try. We also have a growing “network of friendship” with other towns linked to our twin towns. We are a self-supporting, non-political, non-denominational organisation, but close links are maintained with Kenilworth Town Council via nominated representatives on the Council and the Town Mayor is always Honorary President during his or her term of office..
Regular and varied social events involving all members are organised throughout the year to keep in touch and to raise funds. There are regular Newsletters, which give details of all visits, social events etc.
Why join us? Why have twin towns?
What's it all about?
Good questions - after all, people can travel around Europe easily, cheaply and freely these days! Twinning is really all about relationships and the key word is friendship. It's long term. It starts, it grows, it flourishes. it introduces people to new experiences and to new friends and brings us closer together in a way that twinning does in quite a unique fashion. The chances are you've never visited the towns twinned with Kenilworth and it's possible that you don't even know where they are! So why not contact us to find out more - and to make new friends around Europe!
